Iberdrola will build a 200MW wind turbine park for Apple's DataCenter

Avangrid Renovables, Iberdrola's US subsidiary, will be in charge of building the 200MW wind turbine park for the new DataCenter that Apple is building.

One of the big problems of DataCenters and large-scale server systems today is the power supply. Currently, energy is generated mainly through highly polluting systems such as coal or very dangerous such as nuclear ones. Apple wants to weave its own electrical grid that generates its own energy, creating a wind farm in Oregon, on the west coast of the United States, with a custom design that will be built by the Spanish Iberdrola. The Cupertino company is betting on making investments for the conservation of the planet.

This bet by Apple is not a novelty in the world of large companies, since other large corporations such as Home Depot, Facebook, Google or General Motors work on alternative and clean electricity generation systems. Iberdrola currently already controls a part of the wind power in the United States that supplies electricity to the giant Amazon, which is a rival to beat in data management. Iberdrola also recently won an electricity supply contract for Nike.

Apple has been studying the offer for quite some time. The contract, which is the largest the company has signed so far, was very important for the machines to start working next September. This project is located in Montague and it will supply energy with an installed power of 200MW, which will be approximately fifty wind turbines and which will be completed in 2020.

Iberdrola will not build it directly, it will be its American subsidiary Avangrid Renovables who will be in charge of the construction of this park. This park located in Montague will be able to generate clean energy for the Apple company for the next twenty years. This contract is quite similar to the one Amazon and Nike have signed. Apple has commented that thanks to this wind farm the profitability of the facilities and investments in the long term are guaranteed.
