IBM presents at the IBM Think 2018, a functional computer the size of a grain of salt

Impressive announcement by IBM during IBM Think 2018, where they have presented a functional computer, as big as a grain of salt and they promise more in the next five years.

Today we can find the Intel NUC on the market, for example, compact computers that in their most advanced versions allow gaming without problems or laptops weighing less than two kilos, something that years ago was unimaginable. IBM has wanted to go much further and has developed the smallest computer to date. This system developed by the company is the size of a grain of salt, something that lets us see the potential of certain technologies and how far it can go.

It was presented at the IBM Think 2018, where they showed the world a tiny computer, as small as a grain of salt, something that is, without a doubt, a success. Let's not hope that this computer has the power of a modern day computer, the feat is not so great. According to the developers, this computer has the same power as an X86 processor in 1990. It may not sound like much, but we are talking about computers that were gigantic, heavy and highly energy inefficient.

We are not only talking about a very small computer, we are also talking that this processor is very cheap, since it costs only a few cents of dollars and has a few hundred transistors. Logically, a long way from the trillions of transistors that are built into today's processors.

This system has very interesting applications, especially IBM has focused it for blockchain technology. Furthermore, it can also be used for product tracking and detecting theft, as well as different fraud. It also has the ability to perform simple AI tasks, such as ordering the data given to it.

IBM has also said that this is a very basic prototype and that in the next five years, computing miniaturization will continue to advance significantly. This will make it possible to computerize any type of item or product of today, which gives us extra data of the same or, telematic control of systems, at an extremely low cost.
