Report shows which are the most common GPUs in smartphones

Device Atlas reveals which are the most common GPUs for smartphones, leading the Adreno market, thanks to its integration with Qualcomm processors, the most popular on the market.

Whenever we talk about graphics cards, we talk about NVIDIA and AMD, the most important developers in the desktop graphics market (and the only two that exist), but in the smartphone market there is a little more variety. Each manufacturer has its graphic options and there are dozens of options on the market, depending on the needs of each one. Smartphone SoCs have integrated GPUs associated, which according to the SoC and the manufacturer, are better or worse, but what is the most common graphics, depending on the country?

This doubt gives us a reflection of which is the most common solution, depending on the country and the three most common manufacturers have been analyzed, such as Qualcomm with its Adreno graphics, Imagination Technologies that develops PowerVR and ARM, which has baptized its graphics as Mali. Device Atlas has made a compilation of which are the most common graphics options according to the country and the truth is that it is quite interesting. This year 2017, for example, in Spain, there is a certain balance between the three options, although almost 40% of users prefer Qualcomm processors and therefore Adreno graphics.

Adreno, in addition, is the most common in high-end terminals, such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 (United States model), the LG G6 and the Xiaomi Mi6. PowerVR is basically used in the iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, while the latter, the Mali, can be found, among others, in the Galaxy S8 terminals (European model), the Galaxy S7, the Galaxy S6 and Huawei P10. In addition, the data show that Japan, Australia, Canada or Sweden, terminals with PowerVR graphics are more common, therefore, in these countries iPhone terminals predominate.

According to Device Atlas, on the international scene, Adreno GPUs are the most common, since the use of Qualcomm processors for smartphones is highly popular, followed by ARM's Mali graphics, which occupies the second position and Imagination Technologies solutions occupies the third position, although the difference between the three manufacturers, in terms of volume, is quite similar.
