Microsoft engineer implements artificial intelligence on a Raspberry Pi 3

One of Microsoft's engineers, who works in India, has managed to implement artificial intelligence in a Raspberry Pi 3, to detect squirrels and scare them away with sprinklers.

Artificial intelligence is on everyone's lips and is being a fundamental piece for the main manufacturers of silicon chips and special systems developed to make artificial intelligence systems work. It is for this very reason that when we talk about artificial intelligence, we imagine large servers, but these systems are not exactly useful, they have a high cost and to experiment it is very good. What is currently being sought is to implement small-size artificial intelligence systems, which can be used on a day-to-day basis, that is useful for users.

Well, one of the engineers working at Microsoft has managed to miniaturize an artificial intelligence system, quite complete, but under a Raspberry Pi 3, a computer, we must remember, that it costs approximately € 30. Who has developed this feat is Ofer Dekel, one of the Microsoft engineers working in India, who has managed to recognize images of squirrels, opening the sprinklers when they are detected and thus scare them from a feeding area for birds. It seems somewhat minor, but of course, this is something really complex and unique.

Dekel ensures that it should be able to be implemented in all machines connected to the internet, that have an AI and that it is possible to do it in highly economic devices, such as a Raspberry Pi, which is below $ 10. It will be possible to make these systems through compression and elimination of redundancy, allowing the system to run about twenty times faster on a Raspberry Pi 3, without any loss of effectiveness when it comes to detecting and locating squirrels.

Implementing it on a Raspberry Pi Zero is somewhat more complex, since currently implementing an AI for such limited resources, it is very complex to compress artificial intelligence without losing efficiency. Ofer Dekel has commented that if the implementation is achieved in simple systems, it will make artificial intelligence popular, allowing it to be taken to any household product with little cost.

  1. It is interesting what can be achieved ... something that is also intriguing to me, is the AI that will introduce Windows into its Windows Defender.

and Speaking of boards like the raspbery, does anyone know of any solutions besides LattePanda (x86 boards) ??

  2. This is very bad, artificial intelligence is the worst that can happen, you will understand in time
