Intel Basins Falls does not perform as well as Kaby Lake in gaming, which is perfectly normal

The Intel Basins Falls, made up of the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X architecture, do not perform as well in games as the Kaby Lake, something that on the other hand is normal, since they are designed for Workstation.

The first benchmarks of Intel Basins Falls processors have been published in video games and, surprisingly, they perform less than the Kaby Lake. We must emphasize that it makes little sense, since these processors are not designed for gaming, they are designed to operate in heavy tasks, such as programming, photo or video editing, streaming and similar tasks. We must add that the same thing is happening as with the AMD Ryzen, which at first did not yield a chestnut and everything was problems, so with future optimizations and improvements, they should gain in performance.

TechSpot has been the one who has compared the quad-core i7 7700K processors with the six-core i9 7800X, to which a GTX 1080 Ti has been installed, capable of moving any game without major problems. The Kaby Lake processors have been on the market the longest and are a mature platform (hot, but mature), while the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X are just hitting the market. Not only that, the Kaby Lake are directly designed for gaming and optimized for these functions. Just as we say that it is absurd to use the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition to play video games, it is absurd to buy an Intel Basins Falls to play, since it is not the function for which they were developed.

It should be noted that Intel has modified the core structure in the Basins Falls processors, since they go from a ring-shaped architecture, which has been used so far, to a mesh system, which what it does is improve the implementation of cores more efficiently, although this system seems to generate a little more latency. Intel has recognized that in video games they do not go as well as the Broadwell-E, but of course, the Basins Falls are designed, above all, for other tasks.

We have found that there are applications where Broadwell-E processors are faster than Skylake-X. This is a consequence of the new Skylake-X mesh architecture compared to the Broadwell-E ring architecture.

Implementing any new architecture requires significant engineering work to improve the overall performance of the platform, and this is no exception with Skylake-X.

While this internal change affects many applications, the new Skylake-X processors offer an excellent level of IPC and a significant improvement in overall performance.

  1. The issue is that many youtubers buy this type of processors to play and stream, so they tend to focus on the gamer world although it does not correspond.
