Intel confirms at a press conference at CES 2017 in Las Vegas that Intel Cannon Lake processors will hit the market this year, but does not say when.
The Intel conference has left us a very interesting surprise and it is that if the Kaby Lake have not yet officially reached the market, we already know that Intel this year in addition to launching an extreme range of processors based on Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X It will also launch new processors, specifically the Intel Cannon Lake, which leave behind the 14nm seen in the Broadwell, Skylake and Kaby Lake families and will be manufactured in 10nm.
Brian Krzanich, the CEO of Intel, has officially announced it at CES 2017, during his conference, in addition to having shown the first prototype of a functional laptop that theoretically mounts a Cannon Lake processor with 10nm architecture. This new architecture allows an improvement in energy efficiency, due to the fact that they have a lower consumption and performance is also improved. This translates, in notebook computers, to a lower processor heat generation and an improvement in the autonomy of the computers.
Not much information has been given in this regard, well, really no more information has been given, since it has not said a possible departure date, nor frequencies or if the nomenclature will be modified in some aspect. What seems very likely is that Cannon Lake will follow in the footsteps of Kaby Lake in terms of launch, this means that the Core M and Core U would first reach the market, designed for laptops, miniPCs and convertibles and that later versions of desktop.
If the information is correct, the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X should arrive in summer, possibly coinciding with the Computex, with which, it would be logical to think that the Cannon Lake would arrive on the market from November and possibly before mid-December to take advantage of the Christmas pull.
