Intel develops a blockchain to sequence the DNA and RNA of plants and animals
Intel has applied for a blockchain patent for a mining system to discover and verify new DNA and RNA sequences, using proof of work.
Cryptocurrencies are an important revolution in the economic segment, but they have integrated a much more interesting technology that moves and will move millions of euros. We are talking about blockchain technology, also known as blockchain, which can be used for absolutely everything, including open and social projects, to improve society. Intel, the world's largest processor company, has filed a patent application for mining for the purpose of DNA and RNA sequence extraction.
This patent application, filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office by Drs. Ned Smith and Rajesh Poornachandra, describes its solution as a 'Sequence Extraction Platform' or SMP. The solution relies on processors performing Proof-of-Work (PoW), commonly used in cryptocurrency mining, but in this case for sequencing the nucleic bases of DNA and RNA chains in living organisms, via enteral feeding.
We can say that RNA and DNA are also chains, these made up of nucleic pairs, where genetic data are stored that end up determining different physical aspects of living beings in the world, whether they are animals or plants. The decryption of this data could help in the prevention of diseases, such as cancer, and also help the research and development of new transgenic foods. This will also help the preservation of animal and plant species, which are at serious risk of ending up extinct, which almost certainly are the fault of human beings.
This system aims to change the mathematical problems of traditional mining, which give us different cryptocurrencies by the SMP. The idea is that the work done not only benefits the miners, but also helps the advancement of science. What is sought is the validation of all DNA and RNA sequences, before registering it in the blockchain. Basically, if a miner discovers a sequence, it has to be validated by a second miner, in case this second miner validates it, the sequence will be considered good, but if the validation is not received, the work will have no effect.
