The i9-12900KS will be sold as the top-of-the-line unlocked, overclockable desktop Alder Lake CPU , so expectations are incredibly high for a flagship device. The "KS" model of the i9-12900 was first shown at Intel's CES 2022 presentation , but no updates have been provided since.
Recent leaks suggest that some retailers are preparing for the launch . The first product listing can be found by searching for the product code "BX8071512900KS".
An overclocking flagship could be out soon
According to two listings discovered by Twitter user @momomo_us, the Core i9-12900KS would have a base power of 150W, which is 25W more than the i9-12900K. It would also have a single-core boost clock of up to 5,5 GHz, representing a 300 MHz improvement over the original model. As for the price, the CPU is listed at $780 and $792, which is 27% more than the 12900K from the same retailers.
The leaker did not mention where those listings are from, nor if the value added tax that stores put for final consumers is applied to them or it is the price for companies. It is to be expected that a model with eight cores of performance and four of efficiency, for desktops and capable of overclocking, which is the flagship of one of the generations of Intel Core that introduces the most novelties, will have a very high price.
The Intel Core i9-12900KS CPU is expected to launch this quarter. Retailer listings typically indicate that the product is just a few weeks away. We also expect to start seeing benchmarks and overclocking milestones, as we've seen with other Alder Lake models like the Pentium Gold Alder Lake.
