On October 27, the Intel Optane SSD 900P units will be launched on the market, for the professional segment, while for the gamer user there are only available cache units based on Optane with a ridiculous price.

Intel Optane units for the desktop market, we mentioned this past week, that they do not make the slightest sense, since they can only be used as cache memories and with M.2 SSD units through PCIe. Well, new information has been leaked about the Intel Optane SDD 900, we must emphasize that they are units for the professional sector and servers, so for the average user, these units do not finish arriving, possibly, because Intel has not yet managed to polish the manufacturing process of these memories.

These new drives will be available in 240GB, 480GB, 960GB and 1.5TB, for a completely unknown price. The interesting thing about these drives is that they allow read speeds of 2.5GB / s and 2GB / s for writing. If that seems little to you, in 4K random reading, it offers 550.000IOPS, while 4K random writing offers 500.000IOPS, all this with an in-use consumption of 18W, while in standby it consumes approximately 5W. It should be noted that these units should have already hit the market (professional), last April, but they have been delayed due to Intel's problems to manufacture the memories that compose it.

Intel promises extremely low latency for these units, coming with a PCIe 3.0 x4 connection, U.2 port or SATA 6Gbps in 2.5 ”format. The price will be expensive, since the current Optanes for commercial 32GB cache are around € 85. These units do make sense, but those that we can find for the average user do not make the slightest sense and less if we highlight that it only works on Intel Kaby Lake and later processors and with AMD these units do not directly work.
