Intel may launch 14-core Comet Lake-S processor family based on XNUMXnm
Rumors appear about a possible Intel Comet Lake-S processor family that will bring ten-core processors in the 14nm lithography.
Despite the problems and constant delays from Intel of the arrival to the market of processors based on the 10nm lithography, which means that the company must insist on the 14nm lithography. Currently the company has launched the Coffee Lake Refresh processors with the Core i9 9900K that has eight cores. It seems that the company is finalizing a new family of processors, the Comet Lake-S that will be based on 14nm and that will have up to ten cores.
Intel Comet Lake-S based on 14nm and with up to ten cores.
This information at the moment is a rumor that comes from Taiwan and indicates that the company would be working on desktop processors belonging to a new family called Come Lake. These processors came in highly polished and optimized 14nm lithography that will allow up to ten cores to be integrated into a single DIE.
Information comes from a Taiwanese forum where they suggest that the Comet Lake-S family had been mentioned during a membership meeting. As we say, it will continue to be based on the 14nm manufacturing process and had been included in an updated DT / IOTG roadmap. The roadmap is usually updated quarterly but has not yet been made public.
We see how the Core i9 9900K are already quite hot and you need quite advanced heatsinks to operate, so quite possibly these future ten-core processors also have temperature problems and they will surely arrive with the DIE and IHS soldered. It is possible that new motherboards are also needed for these processors, which would mean an additional financial outlay, since it is very possible that there will be no backward compatibility with motherboards that are already on the market.
