Intel to mass produce 10nm processors in the second half of 2018

Intel says it will start mass producing the 10nm processors during the second half of 2018, to launch them as soon as possible, because AMD is pushing too hard with Ryzen processors.

During CES 2018, Intel did not say anything about the 10nm processors, they only named them in a rather informal talk at the booth, not during the launch conference where I talk about a lot of products. Brian Krzanich, the CEO of Intel has said that the process of production of the processors with the 10nm node will begin to produce during the second half of this year and that they will move to the 10nm + node as soon as possible, to improve the efficiency of processors and improve their capabilities.

Intel has had quite a bit of trouble trying to jump from 14nm, specifically, this manufacturing process has been around since June 2015, when Broadwell processors were released. 14nm has given life to four families of processors and this architecture no longer supports more families of processors, so the company needs to jump to the next node. Not only because the current node does not give more of itself, but because AMD is pushing a lot with the six-core processors of the Ryzen family for gaming, the APUs that are about to arrive and the Ryzen 2 based on 12nm, it aims to be also a major toothache.

Specter and Meltdown may be behind the 10nm delay, because they would be finalizing the fix for these vulnerabilities in this architecture, which will give life to the Cannon Lake family. This reduction of nodes can bring more cores for gaming and improve energy efficiency and overclocking capabilities. The company is also working on 10nm +, which will be used for the Ice Lake processors. Clearly Intel has the idea of putting land back in between, hence the rush.
