Intel Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X would arrive in the month of August

The new Intel Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors from Intel's extreme range would arrive in summer, along with the new X299 chipset and LGA 2066 socket.

Just a few weeks ago, Intel has put the Intel Kaby Lake processors on sale, a slight update to the Skylake. They will not be the only launches this year, since the Cannon Lake, the new line of processors with 10nm architecture, is expected to also launch later this year, but before these will arrive the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X, a version extreme of Intel's two most recent 14nm architectures and is expected to arrive during the month of August before or during Gamescom 2017.

Intel High-End Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X

According to information from Benchlife, the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors would hit the market days before or during Gamescom 2017 to be held in the German city of Cologne. This launch is expected to include four SKUs plus a new line of X299 chipset motherboards. These processors belong to the 14nm architecture, in which the processors based on Kaby Lake-X have a slight improvement due to the optimization of the process, which would mean an improvement in the frequencies with lower consumption, being more efficient.

The four SKUs will have ten, eight, six, and four cores, each. We know that the ten, eight and six cores will be based on the Skylake architecture, while the quad core will be based on the Kaby Lake architecture. The Skylake-X processors will have a TDP of 140W, while the Kaby Lake-X will have a TDP of 112W. All of these processors will be included in the Intel i7 7000 Series processor family.

Something quite curious is that the four processors may not have the 'X' right after the numbering, since they would be more like 'K' series chips. What this would mean is that this time we would not have an 'Extreme Edition' processors, for unknown reasons. Said processor 'Extreme Edition', it is possible that it delays its launch a little, something like what has happened with the Intel Kaby Lake i3 7350K processor, Intel's first processor of the i3 family that allows overclocking. According to a source, these new processors will have modifications in the cache, which would offer higher performance.

Intel Flagship X299 for Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors

Regarding the new Intel X299 chipsets, we know that it will be special for these new LGA 2066 socket processors, which, as with the Z270 chipsets for the LGA 1151 socket, will be compatible with two generations of processors. According to the specifications, the X299 offers support for 24 PCIe 3.0 lanes, in addition, it also adds Quad Channel support for DDR4 RAM memories supporting a native frequency of 2666MHz, although this will be only for the Skylake-X, the Kaby Lake-X processor only It will support Dual Channel at a native speed of 2667MHz.

The Basin Falls PCH also offers support for ten USB 3.0 ports, eight USB 2.0 ports, SATA III connectivity and an Intel LAN PHY network card. Additionally, this X299 chipset adds support for Enhanced SPI, SPI, LPC, SMBus and HDAudio, integrated to offer improved functionalities.

These new processors of the most extreme range of Intel will have to compete directly with the AMD Ryzen, as well as the other processors that Intel has in the market, which, according to what we know from the AMD conference scheduled at GDC 2017, are falling. Cannon Lake and Coffee Lake will arrive at the end of the year and beginning of 2018, in addition to the forecast of some more advanced Kaby Lake-X at the end or beginning of 2018. A large number of processors that will flood the market in the coming months that we will see how do they work. During Computex it is foreseeable that we will see new data on the Skylake-X and the Kaby Lake-X.
