This year is moving in the processor market at least, in a fratricidal battle between Intel and AMD. Intel for its part with the arrival of Intel Kaby Lake, the next arrival of its extreme processors Intel Skylake-X and Intel Kaby Lake-X and possibly the arrival of Intel Cannon Lake at the end of the year, while AMD is at full speed. with AMD Ryzen that should hit the market in less than a month. To combat the arrival of AMD Ryzen to the professional sector, Intel has presented the Intel Xeon Gold 6150 processor.
Intel Xeon Gold 6150 is a clear answer to AMD Ryzen, processors that have not yet arrived in their home version or in their professional version. The Xeon are processors intended for massive data computing, especially designed for centralized servers or high-level computing. Intel's strategy seems to be to leave no quarter to AMD and much less Naples, the solution of the red company for the professional sector, which as we know would have a version of thirty-two cores and sixty-four processing threads.
Xeon Gold 6150 is no joke. This processor will have no less than eighteen physical cores, which are based on the Skylake 14nm Tri-Gate architecture and obviously this processor has thirty-six HyperThreading processing threads. It integrates no less than 1MB of L2 cache and 25MB of L3 cache. Regarding the frequency, this processor works at a base frequency of 2.7GHz, which can reach 3.7GHz in Boost mode and a Quad Channel type memory control system.
Naples, AMD's solution for the professional segment based on AMD Ryzen will have more cores, that is true, but this solution from Intel is only an intermediate step awaiting the professional version of the Cannon Lake, which will be released before the domestic version of these processors and surely, in between, we will see new Xeon processors based on Kaby Lake and Skylake. A year, at least, fun.
