Intel Xeon Plantinum 8176 will offer an excellent consumption per core, adding 670W, in total

Despite the Intel Xeon Platinum 8176 with twenty-eight cores and fifty-six processing threads with 670W, offering good performance due to a significant reduction in consumption per core.

Intel processors in the professional segment are the most relevant today and now the Intel Xeon Scalable processors arrive, which are intended for professional systems, such as servers, Data Center or for Artificial Intelligence and that will compete with AMD EPYC. Intel processors will have a maximum of 28 cores and will support up to 6TB of RAM in the case of motherboards that have four sockets. The difference in power with the AMD EPYC is very noticeable.

The processor we are talking about is the Intel Xeon Platinum 8176, which is the top of the range on the market, with a total of twenty-eight cores and fifty-six processing threads. This work has a base frequency of 2.1GHz and a Boost mode of 3.8GHz, which will support up to 768GB of DDR4 RAM working at a frequency of 2666MHz. The Platinum 8176 will have a price in Europe that will be around € 9000, which has a base consumption of 209W, reaching a consumption with load that is around 670W, and can reach a peak of 711W.

On the AMD EPYC we do not have much data, since these have not come out, but it is known that the EPYC 7601 has thirty-two cores and sixty-four processing threads working at a base frequency of 2.2GHz and a Boost frequency of 3.2 GHz, which will have a TDP of 180W, which is not the final power consumption, although this processor will be priced at about € 4500, lower than Intel's solution. Tom's Hardware review makes it clear that consumption is significantly better, per core, than the Xeon E-2697 v4 processor.
