Twitter has changed the retweet button, and you're noticing it now

Twitter has changed the way the RT, or retweet button works. It is a measure for the North American elections.

Right now you will be noticing that if you want to make an Rt or retweet a drawing, meme, joke, poem or news on Twitter, you will see that you cannot directly retweet. It is directly putting you on the screen to retweet with a comment when you only want to share it and that's it. It is not an error, it is a change that Twitter has introduced.

A change to the Retweet button to fight misinformation

The news went largely unnoticed a few weeks ago, but today a Twitter movement has been launched to fight disinformation in the United States by introducing a small change in the retweet button. The idea of taking us directly to the option to quote is so that when we share a tweet, we get a warning that Twitter has seen that we may be sharing information that has been classified as false. So one would think to share something so fast.

The change was introduced today as the first measure in a package of measures on the occasion of the North American elections. It is a time when a lot of false information is going to spread, a lot of hoaxes, whether for or against Donald Trump or Joe Biden. Twitter has seen that it can do its job to avoid manipulation and this is one of its ideas.

For example, it will warn of people who try to give results of the elections when they have not yet been made public. It will also warn of misinformation spread by American politicians. For normal users and outsiders of American politics, this is going to be uncomfortable and there are already many complaints. Luckily, you can continue making a normal retweet on Twitter, by pressing the button to make a tweet with a comment, leaving the text field empty. It is something that will have to get used to, at least until the elections are over on November 3.
