Fastly and AWS crash leads to huge global internet crash

If you noticed a few hours ago that many internet services were not working, do not worry because it was not your fault, because it was a global downfall of Fastly and Amazon Web Services. The fall lasted a short hour, but it has left many very important websites unusable or limited their services.

The fall in cloud hosting services and traffic has led to the websites of major international newspapers, in addition to Twitch, Amazon and Spotify. It has not taken long for voices to emerge explaining that this is an example of the hyper-centralization of Internet hostings and the problem of bringing together many services, many of them key, in a single hosting.

One hour without accessing the internet

This temporary internet blackout has affected the New York Times, CNN, the streaming portal Twitch, the British government website, Amazon, Paypal, Financial Times, The Guardian, the HBO service, Movistar, some images in Twitter didn't load, you couldn't access Reddit, Pinterest, Spotify didn't work ... Even Spanish media like El Mundo, El Periódico, Marca and As were affected by their dependence on Amazon Web Services and Fastly.

Stackoverflow and Github have gone down, disrupting an important resource for programmers and developers for a while. The drops affected all websites, but others simply affected the availability of their remote content.

And is that the consequences of the fall of a giant like Fastly are enormous if it falls hosting the vast majority of websites that we use not only for leisure, but for work. Especially now, with a great dependence on the internet to communicate and even carry out all our work, a fall of a large provider of such a centralized service can have enormous consequences and affect us more than we imagined at first.
