DARPA creates a swarm of air and ground robots for performances in sensitive areas

DARPA is announced to be working on the development of a swarm of aerial and ground drones for interventions in complex areas.

Although we do not usually see them, drones They are increasingly present and are used for many things. They are often used to verify the status of power lines, wind turbines, in crops and in many other fields. Now the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, better known as DARPA, is studying how to use them for military missions. This agency is working on the development of a swarm of drones for military tasks.

The DARPA agency primarily focuses on developing solutions for the military field. They have developed dozens of new technologies or adapted technologies to be used in armed conflicts. Today drones are already very important in conflict zones. This system would give them even more prominence in military interventions.

Specialized drones are being used to surround buildings and try to find the target. The idea is to secure the building, verifying that no one enters and leaves and find the target to be neutralized. These aerial drones are supported by ground robots that would control all escape routes from the target.

This agency is conducting its tests in Georgia. The number of drones used in this first test phase has not been specified. The number can increase or decrease as needed. It is estimated at about 250 drones, both aerial and ground, to make up the swarm.

A source from DARPA assure that these aerial and ground robots could help in complex terrain such as large cities. At these points it is difficult to have a visual control of the entire structure. They also emphasize that it is difficult to see from very distant points. What we don't know is what kind of missions these swarms will be used for. It is also not specified if they are controlled remotely, assigned a static position or operated by AI.
