Streaming services say they lose 9 billion by sharing passwords
Hulu, Netflix, HBO and more say they lose nearly $ 10 billion by letting us share passwords. It is a figure that they get, so it can be highly inflated.
Who has not decided to resort to sharing passwords for streaming services to see everything they offer? That if one pays Netflix and the other HBO, and thus both can see both services at a relatively reduced price. Suppliers do not like that and we already knew for weeks who want to avoid it.
Sharing your account may be over soon
At the time we said that they are going to put methods to make it difficult to share passwords with other users such as controlling IPs, SMS messages to the phone of the person who hires ... Everything so that the subscription remains in the same family and share the account with other users it is so difficult that it compensates them to have their own.
But they are targeting laws of net neutrality and data protection. Meanwhile they have come up with another idea: blaming the users. According to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Hbo ... the act of leaving your account to other users reports losses of $ 9 billion since they started their services.
You estimate that by 2024 that figure will reach $ 12 billion. What does this mean? Well, apparently they want to blame the users that if they share their account they will not be able to have money to get licenses or renew series or do more ambitious things. But that figure is one that they have taken, very upward and catastrophic, because they could lose subscribers if they do not allow to share account and password with friends. They do not take into account that more eyes increase the value of their series and achieve benefits for advertising in them or merchandising sales, among other sources of income not related to subscriptions.
