Palmer Luckey, creator of the Oculus Rift, wins a US government contract to make drones with Artificial Intelligence
One of the creators of Oculus Rift, Palmer Luckey, has won a large contract with a company to develop drones with Artificial Intelligence.
The country in the world that invests the most GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in defense, after North Korea, is the United States. Defenders of world peace (understand the irony) are characterized by investing huge amounts of money in weapons of war. Google long ago developed 'Project Marven' for the US military. After the rain of criticism Google left the project. That space has been up for auction and has been occupied by Anduril, a Palmer Luckey company. The idea is to develop drones with Artificial Intelligence.
Palmer Luckey to develop drones with Artificial Intelligence for the United States Army
Luckey, for those who do not know, is the co-founder of the company Oculus Rift, currently owned by Facebook. Well, it has been done with a contract from the Pentagon, for the development of autonomous drones with Artificial Intelligence.
The implications of the contract awarded to Anduril, Luckey's company, are unknown. It appears to be a fairly similar contract to the one Google obtained some time ago and dissociated from. What has been said so far is that it would be the development of a machine learning system that would allow the detection of all kinds of subjects using autonomous drones. It is intended to collect as much useful information as possible to coordinate attacks and incursions.
Anduril is already a company known in the sector for being the developers of Lattice. We are talking about a system based on machine learning, which has the ability to identify objects and monitor them. This makes it a very interesting tool for conflict situations. Luckey not long ago said that he hoped American soldiers could "be perfectly omniscient," without being caught on the battlefield.
