YouTube and Netflix reduce video quality to reduce network saturation due to coronavirus
With the mandatory lockdown in Spain due to the coronavirus , internet usage has increased significantly. This surge in traffic is causing major infrastructure stability issues. The European Union has asked Netflix and YouTube to reduce the video quality of their services to alleviate network congestion. Both companies have accepted the request and will implement it.
During these days, content streaming increases, especially on YouTube. There are many musicians, for example, who perform live on Instagram to liven up these moments. The direct to follow this pandemic have also increased significantly. Even Spanish comedians perform live on Instagram with part of their monologues.

We are all at home and without internet, we would possibly die of boredom. To avoid this, many have chosen to stream to entertain people. And to all this we must add the people who work from home and who need good internet access. All this congests the network and that is why Netflix and YouTube will adjust the video qualities of their services.
Remember that a few days ago Steam exceeded 20 million simultaneous players and CS: GO exceeded 1 million simultaneous users.
YouTube has indicated, that due to the demand of the EU, it will reduce the quality of video in the direct ones. This will last as long as the confinement lasts and thus avoid the saturation that the network is suffering. Not only the network in general, the servers of all services are beginning to saturate.
For its part, Netflix has announced something similar: "We are making a temporary commitment to change all our content in the European Union to the default definition." In this case, the bitrate will be limited to reduce the bandwidth, a measure of thirty days, for now.
