# IO2017: Google VR glasses that will not connect to any device made by HTC and Lenovo

Google has spoken during the I / O 2017 about the novelties in Daydream and Tango and has presented a new technology for VR glasses, which would not connect to any device since they would integrate all the hardware and which will be manufactured by HTC and Lenovo.

Something highly anticipated at Google I / O 2017 was mixed reality, but in the end it has not appeared, but the field of virtual reality has had an important role. Among others, Google has commented that it is working with HTC Vive and Lenovo to develop independent virtual reality glasses and that soon new terminals will be supported by Daydream. The Daydream platform is a virtual reality glasses based on a viewer that by introducing a series of certain smartphones, simulates virtual reality. Initially the terminals compatible with Daydream were counted, but the compatibility has been increasing.

NO MORE CABLE

It is clear that Google has not arrived soon, but it may have jumped at the right time and messed with everything, as Google usually does, without skimping on cats. Google and the two manufacturers mentioned, such as Lenovo and HTC, would be developing a new category of devices that they have dubbed 'standalone VR headsets', which loosely translated is something like independent virtual reality glasses.

These names are a clear bet by Google for virtual reality, but without it being connected to a computer and, in this case, it will not require a smartphone to work. Basically they would be plug & play reality glasses, come on, put them on and start playing, since they will have all the necessary hardware. This new hardware will be based on Daydream and the manufacturers will be HTC and Lenovo. There are no prices or departure dates, but according to Google, they will start shipping at the end of the year.

There are more news in this case, since they would be developing a new technology called WorldSense, which will allow these glasses to be completely independent and that for this technology they have bundled Qualcomm (and that is to see who says no to Google). Basically they would be glasses capable of tracking the positioning of the user in a very precise way where external sensors would not be necessary, something that seems quite similar to the solution recently announced by Microsoft.

DAYDREAM FOR ... EVERYONE?

Google threw itself into the ring with a smartphone-based virtual reality headset, which is an evolution of the simple Cardboard and a revision of Samsung's VR Gear. Daydream will not end despite new Google projects. The list of terminals compatible with Daydream should be expanded shortly, among which we already find the Google Pixel (of course), some Motorola terminals, the Huawei and the ZTE Axon 7, to which the Samsung smartphones would be added, specifically the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 +, as announced today. The list would be expanded with the next high-end LG, with which eleven smartphones compatible with this technology would already be added.

AUGMENTED REALITY

Tango is Google's augmented reality solution and will be compatible with more and more terminals, the next compatible smartphone being the ASUS ZenFone AR. New features around this technology have been presented, specifically the combination of tango with Visual Positioning Service services, allowing our terminal to guide us to the location that we have told it, simply by indicating that we want to go to this or that point of a certain place.
