2nd Gen AMD Ryzen delivers best-in-class computing performance and even faster gaming framerates than the previous generation
Available worldwide starting today, AMD 'Zen +' processors from 12nm offer the highest multithreaded performance in its classplus advanced enthusiast features and a smarter platform.
AMD today announced the global availability of the 2nd generation of its Ryzen desktop processors, starting with four models optimized for gamers, creators, and hardware enthusiasts: Ryzen 7 2700X, Ryzen 7 2700, Ryzen 5 2600X, and Ryzen 5 2600. Using the The world's first 12nm process technology, these 2nd Gen Ryzen processors can deliver up to 15% more performance in the game 2,3 compared to 1st Gen Ryzen processors, while delivering the highest multiprocessing performance you can get from a traditional desktop PC [i], and enhanced capabilities including Precision Boost 2 and Extended Frequency Range 2 (XFR 2), an included Wraith cooler, unlocked performance accessed with the new Ryzen Master tool, and more.
“Last year we began to change the PC industry with the introduction of our first wave of Ryzen processors, bringing more performance, features and options to our customers than ever before. Our 2nd generation Ryzen CPUs continue in this quest, raising the bar for enthusiastic gamers and creators, ”said Jim Anderson, senior vice president and general manager, Computing and Graphics Business Unit, AMD. "With this launch we are also proving that this is just the beginning, as we are committed to delivering a generational roadmap of leading high-performance processors that will drive innovation and competition in the industry for years to come."
Built on the award-winning 2017 “Zen” architecture, 2nd Gen Ryzen processors combine the enhanced “Zen +” core with other major performance, feature and platform advancements.
Performance Advances
The new “Zen +” core increases IPC and reduces cache and memory latencies compared to 1st generation Ryzen processors. AMD's SenseMI technology has been updated with Precision Boost 2, enabling 2nd Gen Ryzen processors to intelligently analyze workload and computing environment, helping to deliver the highest multiprocessing performance in its class1.
Higher effective clock speeds across all cores of 2nd Gen Ryzen processors can help improve Ryzen processor performance in popular real-world applications such as games, creativity, and productivity applications. Gaming experiences are wonderfully smooth at popular resolutions, from 1080p Ultra to 1440p High and 4K. And some of the 2nd Gen Ryzen processors deliver content creation up to 20% faster than the competition.
With XFR 2 technology on all AM4 platforms with 2nd Gen Ryzen processors, enthusiastic PC builders will enjoy even higher performance using premium cooling.
Feature Advances
Engineered with enthusiasts and high performance in mind, 2nd Gen Ryzen processors feature integrated welded heat spreaders for superlative heat transfer [i], and unlocked multipliers for control 5 simple and powerful. Performance optimization, made possible by new Ryzen Master 1.3 software, is easier than ever, now offering per-core overclocking with automatic identification of potentially faster cores.
For the first time ever, the entire 2nd Gen Ryzen processor lineup includes the world-class AMD Wraith cooler in the box that it ships in. The flagship AMD Ryzen 7 2700X processor includes the new Wraith Prism cooler, which offers superior thermal performance, an improved fan profile, and enhanced lighting capabilities with RGB controls.
Platform Advances
Optimized for 2nd Gen Ryzen processors, AMD's new X470 chipset is now available on socket AM4 motherboards. In addition to improved memory support and overclocking capabilities, these new motherboards come with a free download of the new AMD StoreMI technology software, combining the speed of an SSD and the capacity of a traditional spinning hard drive. in a single, easy-to-manage unit for faster, smarter and easier storage.
Compatible with all current AM4 processors, the new X470 motherboards improve on what the 300 series motherboards already offer, which are also compatible with the new 2nd generation Ryzen processors through a firmware update (BIOS). Many motherboards on the market already come with the updated BIOS, indicated by the "Ryzen Desktop 2000 Ready" label on the box.
