The Atari VCS is shown during the Game Developer Conference 2018, which will be a console open to all developers and will have a graphical interface specially developed by Atari.
It has cost a lot, but finally the first real images of the Atari Video Computing System or VCS are seen. Initially this console was known as Ataribox, but in the end, the name has been changed and the previous sale of this console, which will be launched in April, has been delayed. Retro consoles have been widely accepted, you just have to see Nintendo's NES Classic Edition.
This new Atari is very reminiscent of the Atari VCS 2600, which was launched in 1977, but logically with renewed hardware. The new VCS will be available in a plastic or wooden version, and that will implement an AMD APU, but they have not revealed more information about the hardware.
The guys Tom's HardwareAtar, spoke with Atari's COO, Michael Artz, during GDC 2018, with the intention of getting more details and getting a closer look at the console. Artz has commented that the company calls it VCS, because it is not a medium platform like the Xbox or the PlayStation. What they have presented is a functional computer, running a Linux-based operating system with Atari's proprietary interface. The VCS interface is based on a controller inspired by the Xbox or the classic paddle of the console, but we can also connect keyboard and mouse via USB or wirelessly with Bluetooth.
VCS will feature classic Atari titles, but they also work on more recent games for the platform. Being under Linux, it is possible that any game can be run on Linux and even use Steam. It differs from the Xbox and PlayStation, the Atari VCS in that it has not been designed to play powerful games, since its performance will be similar to the Nintendo Switch. Atari also wants to create an open platform and allow to play independent titles, even the system is compatible with 4K.
Atari has not given data on the hardware that the console will use, but according to the information, it could even have voice controls to move through the menu. Pre-sale will begin in April and the Atari VCS is expected to fetch between $ 250-300.

It won't get anywhere. And less at that price.
