NVIDIA Shield TV Adds Nintendo Wii and GameCube Catalogs, China Only

Nintendo allows the NVIDIA Shield TV to run the games of the Nintendo Wii and GameCube, but that is, for now, something exclusive to China.

It is difficult for Nintendo to allow different platforms to make use of their licenses, since they keep them for their consoles, one reason why they are successful. The company has taken some multisectoral steps, in this case making a leap to mobile platforms with the games Super Mario Run and Pokémon Go, this being an unusual move, but one that allows the company to reach more audiences and earn extra income. It seems that the company has now chosen China as a point for a somewhat curious test, together with NVIDIA.

It seems that NVIDIA, who has developed the SoC that gives life to the Nintendo Switch, something that has undoubtedly created a good relationship between the two companies, something that has ended up generating not only good synergies, but an interesting agreement that allows executing the games from the GameCube and the Nintendo Wii on the NVIDIA Shield TV, a hybrid between console and multimedia center. The jump is very simple, since both platforms are practically based on the same SoC. Now you can enjoy titles such as Metroid Prime or Super Mario Bross from the Wii, which will be available on the NVIDIA console thanks to a remastering that runs them at a 1080p resolution, more friendly with current televisions.

This movement for the moment has only been for the Chinese market, with the intention of Nintendo to attract a giant that moves millions of dollars and that resists it. We imagine that in addition to an attempt to bring the company closer to the Asian giant, it is also an apparently experimental movement and if it works well it is possible that the Wii and GameCube catalog on NVIDIA Shield TV is available for other countries.
