The AMD RX Vega will have a large consumption, according to MSI Marketing Director

The MSI Marketing Director has commented in a forum on the Dutch website Tweakers, that he has seen the specifications of the AMD RX Vega and they would have a fairly high consumption.

The AMD Radeon Instinc MI25, which are based on the Vega 10 GPU, were unveiled very recently, which surprised us that it had a 300W TDP. Today the very MSI Marketing Director himself spoke about the AMD RX Vega, which he spoke at Dutch Tweakers portal forumsAfter being aware of the specifications of the graphics card and the truth is that your comment has made the free jump and would be a possible explanation for the constant delay of the AMD RX Vega.

“I've seen the specs of the Radeon RX Vega, and it needs a lot of power. We are working on it, which is a start, so the launch is getting closer :) ”[/ quote]

The truth is that it does not give much room to the imagination and is a very relevant parameter for everyone and especially for MSI, who develops custom versions with overclocking. This excessive consumption can lead to a significant increase in temperature in the GPU and also make overclocking difficult, in addition to requiring an improved cooling solution, to dissipate all the heat.

We will see the official presentation of the AMD RX Vega should be at SIGGRAPH 2017, at the end of July and would not arrive until September, according to the data we handle, although some suggest that it could arrive in August. Regarding consumption, the Frontier Edition by air has a TDP of 300W and cooled by water has a TDP of 350W. AMD could repeat what was seen before Polaris, launching graphics cards with high consumption and causing high temperatures, which is good for the winter and a problem for the pockets.

  1. From my point of view 300W of TDP may not be that much. You have to think that the 1080 Ti has a TDP of 250W. Assuming that the performance is at least the same and at most (being very optimistic xD) 1-5% higher, it does not seem to me that the consumption is excessive. Apart from the fact that the assemblers put oc from the factory and that increases consumption. I believe that the reference meadow will not consume as much. The Vega that will consume a lot will be those of the assemblers that put 10% oc, such as HOF, Gigabyte, Zotac ... You also have to think that Mac with Vega have a xeon and a 500W source. So we will see if it is as this man says.
