Gaming hardware sales rise, while console sales begin to fall

The eternal battle between consoles and desktop computers with gaming hardware, neither platform will be able to end the other, or maybe yes?

Consoles for many years have been the queens of video games, that must be recognized. The time came and some offered big jumps and really addictive games. This caused many to get on an absurd car, when gaming hardware began to 'popularize' its prices or in other words, you could assemble a piece of equipment more powerful than any console for relatively the same price. We have seen that this car has already lost a wheel and the consoles are slowing down in sales.

We are facing a very different framework. I do not see it plausible that consoles disappear due to gaming computers, they will continue to exist. This killing a product has become a trend, especially among those with limited knowledge or hidden interests. Netbooks (those ten-inch computers), had to kill laptops and netbooks have died because of tablets, which have to end laptops, desktop computers and even the human race, if they are. they propose it. Far from fantastic theories, based on absurdities, the reality is that the consoles will end up remaining in secondary entertainment platforms, they will lose weight.

The console and the computer, more similar than different

There was a time when consoles were more different than computers. I remember the PlayStation (last console that I bought) or the PlayStation 2, which you put the disc and you did not have to install or do anything else. The update of these has ended up integrating the installation of games to speed up the loading, browser and use of applications, among others, we can even change the hard drive to expand capacity or connect external memories. What is the difference at this point with a gaming computer?

Factors that reduce the sale of consoles

The similarity between computers and consoles is clear, but there are many factors that have caused consoles to slow down, even reducing sales of these in favor of computers. The first thing is that for the same value a console is worth, you can have a powerful gaming equipment with a good investment, equipment for five or six years, quietly. Upgrading is another factor. At one point you change the graphics or RAM and improve performance, you can even choose to buy the graphics later and pull the integrated graphics until then (integrated graphics are not a big deal, but they go fairly well in a moment dice)

Platforms such as Steam for the most part or Origin by EA provide comfort. You have an amazing catalog on Steam, with thousands of titles at your disposal at the click of a button and offers every three or four months, where you can find games that have weeks at 25% discount or bargains of 75-90% discount. The phenomenon of Steam sales is feared, because it ends up killing the wallets, since there are very sweet offers.

A very important factor in the rise of computers is eSports. Although there are very important console tournaments, the most important in the world are DotA, LoL and Counter Strike, three exclusive computer games. There are many more eSports tournaments and there are also major console tournaments, but the push for esports is mostly based on the computer.

Console exclusivity

We have that there are interesting games that are exclusive on console. This has been growing in recent years as a great excuse for console exclusivity, computer piracy, among other factors. The truth is that piracy, thanks to Steam and the platforms that sell keys for Steam (and other platforms), which put them at lower prices, has led to a decrease in piracy, taking Steam to the figure of twelve million active users. This phenomenon, with the slowdown in the sale of consoles, should be reversed and returned to multiplatform sales, even eliminating the physical unit of the games and taking it only to digital copies, leaving the physical copies for collector's editions.

Gaming equipment goes up

The NVIDIA figures on graphics card sales make it very clear, gaming hardware sells. Not everyone will buy a GTX 1080 that is around € 700-800, many choose to buy graphics cards such as the GTX 1050 / 1050Ti or the GTX 1060, cheaper and very powerful versions, which guarantee years and years of enjoying games on our computer. All large companies, not only NVIDIA, register an increase in the sale of hardware for parts intended for gaming, but the data of a 66% increase in revenue in fiscal year 2017, compared to fiscal year 2016, makes it very clear , gaming is on the rise.

Clone equipment

When talking about reduction in computer sales, a keyword, CLONICS, is avoided. Clone computers are those that we can find in large areas, assembled by ASUS, Acer, HP and many others. These computers do not have their days numbered, but they will end up being residual and bought by people with low computer skills. Users are increasingly looking for more information and to know what they buy and that is why they opt for a piece of equipment, to assemble it themselves or to assemble it in the store.

It has been curious how for years people have not valued what they bought. He would go, look at the prices of the computers and the one that best matched their price is the one they brought to his home, without first finding out. Of course, when it comes time to buy a car, a washing machine, a refrigerator or a television, people take thousands of turns, look and look again, compare and search for information. The necessary value has not been given to buy a computer and it has happened to all of us, the friend or acquaintance who has spent € 1000 on a computer that is worth € 400 at most per pieces and who only wants it to navigate and little else. Nonsense, which is reversed.

Conclusion

I do not believe that consoles will die, that is illogical, just as I have never believed that desktop computers, laptops or any other product will die because of the appearance of a new technology. Each covers a clear segment within the industry and is intended for a certain audience. Like me, I don't think anyone sees themselves playing Counter Strike or LoL on a tablet, it would be illogical, just as I don't see a person spending € 3000 on a gamer computer to play Minecraft, browse and watch movies. Well, this last case is not so far-fetched.

Oh, because I see that this post was posted on a PC gamers page, although I share your opinion that neither the PC nor the consoles will be destroyed.
