Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, talks about the future of the company, which points to 12nm during 2018 in two families of products and that they have a clear Roadmap for the next five years.
During the Credit Suisse Technology, Media and Telecom conference, AMD CEO Lisa Su said that the company will reveal at least two families of 12nm-based products during 2018, both of which will hit the market sooner rather than later. The head of the company has highlighted that 12nm represents a great leap compared to 14nm (AMD Ryzen) and 16nm, something that will allow the company to work with higher frequencies and greater energy efficiency.
'I want to make it absolutely clear that when we look at each part of our Roadmap, we are actually focused on a five-year Roadmap and that is what our clients demand. When you look at conversations with customers, some people ask me: Why didn't EPYC grow faster? You launched it three or four months ago and it's because customers wanted to see silicon tests, sure, they wanted to say, hey, bring your silicon to our laboratories. But now, we are really focused on what we can do in the second and third generation and there is much more participation from the beginning in the Roadmap. And so we have a five-year road hour, we are committed to it. Soon in 2018, we will announce a series of products in 12 nanometers.
12 nanometers is a big leap from 14 nanometers and 16 nanometers, so it will give us some free space. We have made a big bet on 7 nanometers, I firmly believe in that technology. That technology has power density performance benefits. We are adding additional innovation on top of that. And that is certainly very important in our processors and in our GPU Roadmap. And so I think that's different at AMD today. We are very focused on not just increasing revenue today, but really laying the foundation for several years of double digit revenue growth. '
