Western Digital presents its Enterprise UltraStar HS14 units, which make use of MSR technology and allow a storage capacity of 14TB.

Western Digital has developed MAMR technology, which will allow reaching 40TB in a single HDD. Until that day arrives, WD itself has developed 14TB drives.

Western Digital has developed drives of 14TB each, which are included in the Enterprise UltraStar HS14 family, which provide a storage density of 1.034 per square inch. This storage capacity has been achieved by using Staggered Magnetic Recording or SMR technology, which means that the performance of rewriting already written sectors is slightly reduced compared to other HDD units that do not make use of this technology.

In return, it should be noted that the HDDs that make use of helium have a rotation speed of 7.200RPM and have a 512MB cache, which allows a trade-off in performance.
