More benchmarks of the AMD Radeon Vega Fronter Edition, this time in games

New benchmarks for the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition graphics card leave a bittersweet taste, surpassing NVIDIA's GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti in some points, but being below in others.

The new AMD graphics card with the intention of being a graphics card for video game development, dubbed the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition is the latest and best solution from the company. This graphics card can be used for games, relatively, since AMD's idea is that game developers themselves can use it to see how the level or map works, optimize resources and fix bugs, so they don't depend on another team to run the game and thus fine-tune the progress of the game.

Linus Tehc Tips and PCPer have been able to get their hands on one of these graphics cards intended for the professional sector. It was surprising about this graphics card, that at a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels it can cope with a GTX 1080 Ti under the Fallout 4 game, it even happens to this graphics card, which is a logo that we must recognize. The problem is that this graphics card in the rest of the tests carried out is on par with the NVIDIA GTX 1070. In Grand Theft Auto V it is below, while in The Witcher 3, Hitman and Dirt Rally are below.

They have raised the resolution of the graphics card to 4K, showing an interesting performance, leaving this Vega 10 graphics card at just 3fps of the GTX 1080 in the Dirt Rally or just 7fps in the Fallout 4. It is surprising how this resolution achieves more than 60% more performance in the GTA V compared to the GTX 1080, a performance that shoots up with Hitman and The Witcher 3, which is around 80%. Some interesting data, no doubt, better than those seen yesterday under 3D Mark Fire Strike.

THE AMD RADEON VEGA FRONTIER EDITION EQUALS THE GTX 1080 AND IS A FAR AWAY FROM THE GTX 1080 TI

We must emphasize that these data are with drivers, surely, not optimized for games, with a graphics card that is far from designed to play for hours and games that are not optimized for the new Vega architecture. It is possible that when it comes out, we will see it with Prey or The Rise of Tomb Rider, games optimized for AMD, especially Prey, which has direct support from AMD. We must emphasize that if we look at the performance / consumption, the Frontier Edition, with 280W, drops some integers. We will see if AMD solves the problem of consumption before the launch of the AMD RX Vega for gaming.

  1. In some games it performs a little better than a 1070, in others it performs the same as a 1080, so it's a 1070ti 😀 It's also true that it probably has very green drivers and it's not a 100% gaming graphics card, but we already know where this is going.

  2. The truth is that it surprises me that it fights 1080 and 1080 without being a graphic for games but for the professional field, I want to see that they compare it with the quadro.
