The acquisition of Inotera by Micron is completed, which gives the company autonomy and production.
Micron makes it official that this month the acquisition of Inotera Memories, a company that produces DRAM, has been completed. For eight years Micron has had co-ownership and for the last three years it has had full control. The idea of the acquisition is to improve the company's profit account and also to improve manufacturing technologies. Nanya Technology, which was one of the co-owners of Inotera receives 4100 billion dollars and the license to manufacture in two processes of 10nm of DRAM from Micron.
Inotera's Fab 11 facility is located in Taoyuan, Taiwan and according to the data it would account for 35% of the company's total production. This means that this plant accounts for a significant part of the company's DRAM production. It was at the end of last year when Micron and Nanya reached an agreement for the former to take full control of the plant for the 4100 billion mentioned dollars. This acquisition makes up the capital and the shares, while the last section would be the achievement of the money together with the licenses of two Micron DRAM development technologies, which would be the succession of the current 20nm process, called 1Xnm and 1Ynm.
This acquisition not only provides significant manufacturing potential for Micron, it also represents an important leap for the company in autonomy, since it will be able to do it at will without depending on other actors. This also allows you to manage upgrades and match it with other DRAM manufactures in Japan and Taiwan. Nanya, for its part, benefits from the injection of capital and being able to manufacture in two technologies based on 10nm, which could encourage the company to improve its facilities, carry out extensions or any acquisition that interests them.
