Microsoft confirms AMD Ryzen problems under Windows 10 operating system

Microsoft, through a tweet in its Microsoft Support account, confirms that AMD Ryzen processors have technical problems under Windows 10 that will be solved in a few days.

AMD Ryzen processors are really very powerful processors and have great potential, which will be seen when explicit updates appear for these powerful processors Microsoft has confirmed that its operating system, Windows 10, is not capable of correctly detecting SMT threads, also called logical cores, since due to the impossibility of the operating system itself, it detects these logical cores as if they were physical cores, delaying processing tasks and worsening performance in games.

Through a simple and straightforward tweet, Microsoft may have confirmed the existence of this very problem. Each core has a logical thread that supports it and streamlines secondary tasks, which are duplicated per core by SMT, which is the same technology as Intel's Hyper-Threading. A physical core is much more powerful than a logical thread. It seems that disabling SMTs in the BIOS improves performance in some games, with exceptions, of course. The problem is that this disabling the logical cores is not something that simple, it can be done by BIOS, but there are no guarantees that the computer or system will boot.

We also have before us the need for a diagnostic tool for the planning of Windows 10 tasks, which is responsible for the distribution of tasks across the cores. This causes Windows 10, among others, to read that each Ryzen 7 processor has a combined cache of 136MB, when in reality the total L2 and L3 cache is 20MB.

As can be read in Microsoft Support's own tweet, when new high-end processors with new architecture appear, it is normal for problems and bugs to appear. Microsoft Support has confirmed that the next few days they will release an update that should fix all these technical problems.

  1. So I think the title is wrong, the one with problems is Microsoft and Windows 10, not AMD and Rizen, so the problem should be fixed by Microsoft

      1. It is irrelevant who came out first than who, the error is software implementation, not hardware and occurs only in Microsoft Windows 10, therefore it is this system that has the problem and not the hardware (AMD). It is always the software that must be adapted to the hardware and not vice versa, that is why there are drivers, patches and updates. The title is definitely wrong or biased

    1. Microsoft cannot update your operating system to support new hardware if you do not inform you of that hardware and requirements.
Windows failure with the Ryzen SMT is normal, but therefore it is the processor manufacturer's failure, which is AMD, to inform Microsoft or provide a sample of the CPUs beforehand so that they have the patch ready

      1. WOW, FOR MANY YEARS, THE INTEL HT WAS INCOMPATIBLE WITH GAMES, EVEN THOUGH IT SOLD, AND THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT A MANUFACTURER'S FAULT. IT ALSO HAPPENED WITH AMD'S 64-BIT SYSTEMS, WHICH TOOK MICROSFT A LONG TIME TO GIVE PREFERENCE TO INTEL, WHICH REMAINED AT 32-BIT SYSTEMS.

        1. It is not necessary to use capital letters, everything you say is correct, but I mean that it is AMD's fault for not having warned or sending a sample before to Microsoft, so that they would release a patch

    2. Something like that, in fact the translation in the reaction is wrong, there is no date (it is not mentioned in the note either but…), it does not say “in days” anywhere, in fact it says that it is being reviewed and information will be provided in future updates, so there are more things to correct to avoid misunderstandings.

  2. MICROSOFT CONFIRMS THE PROBLEMS OF THE WINDOWS 10 OPERATING SYSTEM UNDER AMD RYZEN. The correct title.

    1. MICROSOFT CONFIRMS WINDOWS 10 OPERATING SYSTEM PROBLEMS WITH AMD RYZEN PROCESSOR.
That title you propose has a couple of grammatical mistakes. Computer equipment runs under the operating system, not the operating system runs under the processor. Also, in a DE + EL sentence, it can only be separated when HE has an accent because it is a personal pronoun.
      Greetings.

      1. They wouldn't be happy like that for nothing. The news has already appeared on the fanboy pages about the complaint from the "anonymous" motherboard manufacturer and everyone is saying that it's their fault for giving preference to INTEL, haha.
