Netflix will charge you for sharing accounts away from home starting in March
We've been hearing for a long time that Netflix is looking for ways to limit people from sharing accounts with people from different houses. This practice led many users to even consider subscribing to the most expensive plans, because between four or five people, it was not that expensive and they had the highest quality options. But with investors looking for consistent yield growth rather than just no loss, are pushing to combat the Shared Netflix accounts in different homes. They are not against sharing the account with your parents if you live with them, but they are against sharing the account with them if you do not live in the same house.
They already have a plan on how to detect them, which has been in beta for months in some territories. And it seems that it has worked because it seems that soon they will start to make it effective. Specifically, at the end of March.
In March, Netflix will go hard against those who share passwords
As part of their latest financial results call, Netflix executives told investors that the company plans to end multi-household account sharing. at the end of the first trimester of the year. That is that at the latest, that control will be activated on March 31. Once rollout begins, Netflix will start tracking login locations and will force account owners to pay an additional fee for extra users on the account.
Users classified as "borrowers" on a Netflix account also will have the opportunity to transfer to their own account and keep all your history, viewing list, likes and dislikes for recommendations of what to watch. Netflix already expects several cancellations due to this change, and it is not known if they consider that the money earned with the additional accounts will correct
Regional pricing for all territories has yet to be revealed. During the testing period in limited areas they priced additional users on a Netflix account at $2,99, in addition to the price of their regular subscription package. In the case of the more expensive packages, for some users it can even be beneficial, since they could agree on prices in between an individual subscription and the additional surcharge, but it is an assumption that would work in the best of cases.
