Mario & Luigi developers file for bankruptcy
Alphadream, who created the Mario & Luigi for Nintendo, have gone bankrupt. His last game was a remake for the 3DS.
Nintendo has several companies under its command that are responsible for producing the games in its catalog. Several internal teams make the biggest games while other teams are dedicated to making titles in a particular series. AlphaDream is the one in charge of making the Mario & Luigi portable RPG games, which had a streak without getting anything special or of great quality.
Alphadream bankrupt
According to the financial newspaper Yahoo Japan, the developer has entered bankruptcy after having a debt of 4,3 million dollars last year. Although they can be blamed for dedicating themselves to making remakes of games that few people asked for and releasing them at the end of the life of Nintendo 3DS when the eyes were already on the recently launched Nintendo Switch. On that console those games would have been much more profitable but Nintendo wanted the 3Ds to have a year or two to receive games to satisfy those who didn't want to switch to the Switch.
Alpha Dream developed Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, Bowser's Inside Story, Dream Team, and Paper Jam. There were enhanced remakes for the 3DS: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, and Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, but like we said, they were late in the console's life cycle and weren't titles that needed a remake or people he wanted them expressly, and the novelties were not enough.
In the event that they do not get liquidity, and being Nintendo's own team, it is likely that they will be absorbed by the company and become one of the internal teams dedicated to experimenting or developing games from its more established series. There will likely be a Mario & Luigi for the Switch in the next few years, but it's still too early to be sure.
