Noctua will not offer an upgrade kit to make its heatsinks compatible with the AMD Ryzen Threadripper

Noctua confirms that it will not have heatsinks for the launch of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper and that it will not offer an upgrade kit for its models on the market, because they would only cover 50% of the size of the HIS.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors represent an important competition in the professional segment to Intel Basins Falls, being better in performance / price than Intel processors. The problem with the Threadripper is the size of the HIS, which is extremely large and clear, that is a problem when finding heatsinks. Noctua already said that at launch it would not have heatsinks compatible with these processors, but has now confirmed that it will not offer an upgrade kit for the Threadripper TR4 socket and for the EPYC SP3 socket.

Noctua does not offer support for the new Threadripper and EPYC processors, it is because the heatsinks they have on the market have a contact base with the HIS designed for processors of smaller size and Noctua ensures that their heatsinks current ones would cover approximately 50% of the HIS of the Threadripper and EPYC processors. This would cause that if a mounting kit compatible with the aforementioned processors were available, the heat dissipation would not be uniform and it would also be quite poor, causing a volume of temperature that cannot be assumed by the processors and in the long run, causing the processor to break.

Noctua has confirmed that it is developing heatsinks for these processors, with a contact surface that covers the entire HIS and that provides dissipation efficiency that meets the company's standards. The new processors will already offer support natively for the TR4 and SP3 processors, indistinctly (both sockets are practically the same, so the same anchoring system should serve for both). On the release date of these heatsinks there is no data, but not only from Noctua, nor Corsair, Cooler Master, NZXT, Cryorig or BeQuiet! They have confirmed if they will have heatsinks by the time of Threadripper's release. Only Arctic Cooling has said that it would have ready, in theory, different liquid coolers for Threadripper, about EPYC they have not commented anything.
