ASUS Republic of Gamers Introduces Zephyrus S GX701
ASUS ultra-thin gaming laptop equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20-series graphics and a 17 ”screen with ultra-thin bezels, up to 144 Hz refresh and PANTONE validation
ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has unveiled the Zephyrus S GX701, an ultra-thin gaming notebook equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics 20 series and 7th Gen Intel Core i8 processor. The Zephyrus S GX701 has a 17-inch screen with 144 Hz refresh rate, ultra-thin bezels, and NVIDIA G-SYNC and Optimus graphics technologies. Its PANTONE validated panel is ideal for immersing yourself in games with maximum realism and creating content with guarantees.
Despite numerous improvements and a larger screen, the Zephyrus S GX701 has a surprisingly slim profile. The new Zephyrus offers a more immersive, powerful and versatile experience than previous models, without sacrificing the level of portability that characterizes the series.
Recorders GeForce RTX under the hood
Having a powerful GPU is essential to achieve the images per second that the screen supports. The Zephyrus S GX701 is available with up to GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 series of graphics offers the cutting-edge gaming experience. Equipped with NVIDIA Turing architecture™ and the revolutionary RTX platform, these GPUs feature real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and programmable shading.
Small form factor and cutting edge performance
The powerful processor in the Zephyrus S GX701 allows you to tackle any task without hesitation. With six cores, 12 threads and a 4,1 GHz Turbo frequency, the 7th Gen Intel Core i8750-8H CPU offers excellent performance for video editing, 3D graphics rendering, simultaneous gaming and streaming, and other demanding applications.
The Zephyrus S GX701 is available with a maximum of 24GB of DDR4-2666 RAM and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. High-speed storage is served via up to 1TB XNUMX-lane NVMe SSD with PCI Express bandwidth® 3.0.
ROG designed the first gaming notebook to be powered via DC or USB Type-C (USB-C™), and the Zephyrus S GX701 features the same technology. The 65W Type-C adapter handles everyday tasks and is much smaller than the AC adapter needed for maximum performance gaming. The Type-C port on the Zephyrus S GX701 supports one external DisplayPort 1.4 monitor, and when used in conjunction with HDMI 2.0b, up to two 4K 60Hz displays can be connected simultaneously.
The Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) module with 2 × 2 MU-MIMO offers a faster Wi-Fi experience when connected to a compatible router such as the ROG Rapture GT-AC5300. Additionally, proprietary ROG RangeBoost technology constantly analyzes Wi-Fi signal reception and uses two pairs of antennas to provide the best possible signal.
Thanks to smart amplification technology, the 2,5 W speakers produce a higher volume level and reduce distortion. Most users connect their favorite headphones to the 3,5mm analog port or USB ports on their computer. The Zephyrus S GX701 has the ability to simulate surround sound with stereo devices such as speakers, USB DACs, and VR glasses. It also has sound features specifically designed for recording and streaming, such as automatic volume stabilization and echo and ambient noise cancellation.
Thanks to 6,9mm bezels that have allowed its 17,3 "screen to be mounted in a chassis only 15,7" wide, the Zephyrus S GX701 fits perfectly in conventional laptop sleeves. It's the most compact 17 ”gaming laptop out there, and with a profile of just 18,7mm it's also the slimmest.
Do not give up anything with the modes NVIDIA G-SYNC and Optimus
Performance varies depending on the game and what happens in each scene. Most screens refresh at a constant rate, which creates problems when frames don't appear at the right time. However, the Zephyrus S GX701 with NVIDIA G-SYNC synchronizes the refresh rate of the screen with the frequency of the GPU to prevent the image from clipping and produce a more playable and immersive action.
- SYNC is the perfect solution for gamers, but by being continuously active, this technology considerably increases energy consumption. This is not a problem while the equipment is connected to the electrical network, but using the battery significantly reduces the autonomy of the notebook. NVIDIA Optimus technology allows the processor integrated graphics to be used by default and the dedicated graphics to be activated when gaming or graphics intensive tasks are performed.
ASUS engineers have developed GPU Switch, a technology that, with a few simple clicks and a system restart, transforms the Zephyrus S GX701 from a gaming beast with cutting-edge graphics performance to a productivity notebook with more autonomy.
Premium display with a high refresh rate
Since the creation of the original Zephyrus, ASUS has worked with leading panel manufacturers to deliver the most advanced gaming displays. The new Zephyrus S GX701 incorporates a display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time that provides a totally fluid gaming experience and maintains sharpness even in scenes with fast speed, something that is ideal for aiming with accuracy in shooting games and which is also greatly appreciated when scrolling through web pages and other documents.
Apart from offering ideal features to play the latest titles in the best possible conditions, this screen is also perfect for creative professionals who need to work with great color precision. ASUS verifies that each Zephyrus S GX701 meets the exacting requirements for accuracy and color consistency of PANTONE Color Validation.
Fast, fine and does not heat up
Ultra-thin chassis make it very difficult to ventilate the CPU and GPU. To prevent the performance of the Zephyrus S GX701 from being impaired, by opening the screen the ingenious AAS (Active Aerodynamic System) automatically expands the rear cold air intake of the equipment. It also has air intakes in the upper area of the keyboard and two fans that are responsible for pushing air through the vents that flank the rear corners and keep the temperature at bay in any situation.
Over time, dust and dirt particles adhere to laptop fans; However, the Zephyrus S GX701 incorporates a design that traps dirt and expels it to the outside through dust ducts. This prevents particles from accumulating on the heatsink fins and eventually compromising the stability of the system.
The speed of the fans is controlled by an intelligent algorithm that responds to changes in temperature. With a simple keyboard shortcut, users can choose from three expertly tuned profiles that optimize ventilation for different usage scenarios. Turbo mode offers maximum performance; Balanced mode optimizes system cooling and performance for light gaming, and Silent mode allows you to work and enjoy content with lower noise levels.
The front placement of the keyboard allows the fans more space and, being further away from the CPU and GPU, it heats up less than traditional keyboards, which is especially appreciated during demanding gaming sessions.
Customize the keyboard with lighting effects
All keys are illuminated with separate RGB LEDs that can shine brightly. Users can customize the brightness and colors for different situations, such as: identifying important keys while gaming or giving the Zephyrus a more professional appearance while working. LED lighting also extends to the touchpad, which transforms into a numeric keypad at the touch of a button, and to a volume control wheel that, similar to desktop keyboards like the ROG Strix Flare, is strategically placed for manipulation. with the left hand. The intensity of the illumination changes automatically according to the volume level.
Aura Sync makes it easy to coordinate the colors and effects of the Zephyrus with compatible peripherals like the ROG Gladius II Origin mouse and Delta headphones. Synchronized lighting enables a more cohesive and professional aesthetic to be created and can be configured from the Armory Crate utility with just a few mouse clicks.
External camera for higher quality communication
The ultra-thin bezels surrounding the screen leave very little room for mounting an internal camera, so after studying how gamers use their webcams, the ASUS R&D team decided to design an external module that offers an experience communicative superior. The ROG GC21 external camera captures FHD video at 60 frames per second, twice the speed of conventional webcams and without sacrificing image resolution. The ROG GC21 camera can be mounted on the screen, or you can use the aluminum base to mount it on a table or shelf. Its foldable design reduces its size and allows it to be carried in a pocket or backpack along with the included USB cable.
