Razer acquires THX
THX reinvents itself as a start-up; keeping workers and directors. A new beginning with the best audio-visual certification, as well as the optimization of the audio experiences and development of a new audio and visual IP
IRVINE, California, October 18, 2016 – Razer™, the world leader in high-end gaming peripherals, software, and systems, today announced the acquisition of THX Ltd.'s assets and the addition of the company's employees and management. Final details of the transaction, which closed earlier this month, were not disclosed.
“Razer has a vision for innovation at every level of entertainment, a vision that THX has cultivated since its inception over the past 30 years,” said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. “This acquisition will allow us to strengthen our leadership in the gaming industry and extend our product development, design, and technology into other areas of entertainment, such as film and music.”
THX will continue to operate as an independent company, with its own management separate from its parent company. In addition, the audio technologies business unit will be free to pursue agreements with other manufacturers, service providers and financial partners other than Razer.
“For 30 years, THX has built a strong legacy as a leader in audio technologies and certifications worldwide,” said Laurie Fincham, Chief Audio Designer at THX. “With their expertise in quality, design, and innovation, Razer supports our vision of optimizing and delivering the best audio-visual experiences around the world.”
“Our goal has always been to ensure that everyone can enjoy high-quality entertainment, regardless of their preferred medium. With Razer, we will be able to strengthen our core business lines and deliver excellence to our customers,” said Ty Ahmad-Taylor , CEO of THX. “As an independent company, THX will work closely with Razer, but we will also continue to serve other companies in the industry.”
Tan stated, “THX's great value lies in its competencies in certification, audio optimization and intellectual property development. We hope that Ty, Laurie, and all their management teams and workers, which we are going to maintain, will follow the path of leadership in the world of innovation and technology in the audiovisual space.
