NVIDIA Ampere would have a family only for cryptocurrency mining

NVIDIA is aware of how difficult it is to coexist between the gaming market and the mining market, that is why they would be working on Ampere graphics cards only for mining cryptocurrencies.

A few days ago NVIDIA said that it planned to announce the production of graphics cards, to solve the increasing price of these and the lack of stock. The company does not feel comfortable with this situation, since the gaming market and the cryptocurrency market are competing for the graphics card market and the average user is the one who is harmed. The situation is complex, as large mining farms take over all of NVIDIA's and AMD's mid-range and high-end stock. To remedy this, it appears that NVIDIA tried to draw an Ampere family for mining.

The GTX 2080 and GTX 2070, will arrive next April and will be based on the Ampre architecture, a new architecture of which little is known and that despite the fact that the first rumors indicated 7nm, it seems that in the end it will be in 14nm FinFET from Samsung. The serious reason for not using 7nm, is that it is still a very green process and the production was not sufficient to satisfy the requirements of NVIDIA.

Ampere will also be based on GDDR6 memories, which offer a higher bandwidth compared to GDDR5 memories. HBM2s are not chosen because they are extremely expensive to manufacture. In addition, the stock of GDDR6 memories is much higher than that of HBM2, so it seems that there will be no stock problems, initially and prices can be adjusted more (if demand allows it).

This is all that was known, but apparently the GA204 silicon will have two different versions, called GP104A and GP104B. The first model would go to gaming and the second model would go to cryptocurrency mining. Little else is known, but as seen, these new graphics cards could come without video connectors or a very simple one and the PCIe connector would also be cut. We could also see cuts in the lengths, heatsinks, and power connectors.
