NVIDIA Drive PX Pegasus, designed for Level 5 of vehicle autonomy

The new NVIDIA Drive PX Pegasus system offers the possibility of reaching Level 5 autonomy for autonomous vehicles, thanks, among other things, to the fact that it has two integrated Volta GPUs.

NVIDIA is betting heavily on two very specific fields, such as technologies based on Artificial Intelligence and autonomous vehicles, two of the markets with the most future and that will move more millions in the coming years. For autonomous vehicles, they have developed the Drive PX Pegasus system, a very powerful computer that will allow the vehicles to be completely autonomous, thanks to the great computing power offered by this powerful system.

NVIDIA Drive PX Pegasus will be able to offer a level 5 autonomy for autonomous vehicles. This allows vehicles to be fully autonomous without the need for the intention or supervision of a human being. It should be noted that vehicle automation has been encompassed in five levels, the most elementary being the level of traditional vehicles, systems without any support through cruise systems or technologies that provided certain autonomous functionalities. A somewhat more advanced level would be the warning of a possible accident on the road, which will be warned by the vehicle and will help to avoid the accident.

This new system is capable of performing ten times more operations per second than the previous model, the Drive PX 2, which offered no less than 320.000 million operations per second. Currently, Drive PX 2 is designed for Level 3 of autonomy, which is used by firms such as Tesla, in their Autopilot system.

“Autonomous cars will open the doors to a new form of experiences within vehicles, new types of cars will be created, such as offices, halls, or even hotels on wheels. Passengers will simply choose what type of vehicle they want based on the route they are going to take ”. Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, said.
