Possible NVIDIA Shield Android TV update will be unveiled at CES 2017 in Las Vegas.
NVIDIA could update its Shield product line or improve the existing platform and will be unveiled in January, during CES 2017. The company normally makes use of this event to reveal new technologies and in this case the rumor that appears refers to a new installment of Shield. According to a rumor, NVIDIA would have wanted to announce this novelty during this same year, but the date has been moved for reasons that are unknown.
NVIDIA's first Shield device was the touchscreen controller released in 2013. That 5 ”touchscreen controller has an NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage memory. The design was discontinued and went from Shield to being a display controller to a tablet the following year, with a Tegra K1 chip, which finally hit the market in 2015 as Shield Tablet K1. NVIDIA would have planned to update the tablet this year, but in August they announced its cancellation, without more.
Then came something that surprised everyone, such as Shield Android TV, which was launched in May 2015. It has been considered the third generation of Shield, which has an NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which in the 'Pro' version, the storage capacity is 500GB. It is a platform for television with Google Android, which allows users to access Google's Android systems just like its predecessors in Shield.
NVIDIA Shield, it seems that it is going to end up being discontinued, because it has not had the expected success, but before, during CES 2017, a new Shield Android TV device will be seen. It is not a 100% device, it is simply an update according to unknown sources. According to the information, we would talk about a very small improvement, where the WiFi Direct would be abandoned to use Bluetooth low energy. This would improve battery usage, lengthening it a bit more.
Also, Shield Android TV, could receive an update that offers 4K support more efficiently. Shield currently offers 4K HDR content, with 60Hz playback and 50Hz capture. Regarding connectivity, 802.11ac WiFi is included through MIMO antennas, Bluetooth 4.1 / BLE and HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2.
It is speculated that Shield Android TV, could upgrade down, as it did with the Shield tablet. Basically it would be to eliminate some functions and thus reduce the price. Right now everything is unconfirmed information, but that points to good manners. Hopefully the information is correct, if not in its entirety, for the most part, but for that we have to wait for the Las Vegas event.
