NVIDIA RTX 3060 will be limited by drivers, BIOS and GPU for mining

NVIDIA integrates driver, BIOS, and GPU-based anti-mining countermeasures into the RTX 3060

A while ago we were talking about a YouTuber who had uploaded a video mining with an NVIDIA RTX 3060. You can see how the graphics card loses much of its mining power after a few minutes. This is because NVIDIA has implemented limitations within the BIOS and GPUs of RTX 3060 graphics to prevent them from being used for mining.

NVIDIA RTX 3060 resistant to software and hardware mining

It seems that NVIDIA has finally taken action on the matter very drastically. Not only have they announced exclusive graphics cards for mining, as are the NVIDIA CMP, but the GeForce will be limited. The limitation will be mainly through BIOS and through the GPU itself, in addition to driver limitations.

The first data pointed to a detection by the BIOS of the EthHash algorithm used in Ethereum. But Bryan Del Rizzo, Director of Public Relations at GeForce has indicated that it is a combination of drivers, firmware and silicon from the graphics.

This feature seems to work not only on Windows, the quintessential operating system for mining, but also on Linux. So there will not be much escape in this regard.

We can say that the NVIDIA RTX 3060 is the beta phase of this new bet from the company. It remains to be seen if these limitations create problems when used in gaming, but they should not. We imagine NVIDIA will have done a painstaking job not to hurt the GeForce family with these tweaks.

We must bear in mind that the NVIDIA RTX 3090, RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti lack the limitations. All of these graphics cards arrived before or in the early moments of the mining explosion. You may not have had time to create countermeasures and implement them in time. Future revisions of these graphs with these built-in restrictions cannot be ruled out.

So NVIDIA ensures that GeForce RTX 3060 graphics (and possibly future GeForce graphics) are not used for mining Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies. But it also concentrates the mining market on NVIDIA CMPs.
