OnePlus explains why they don't have a 5G version of the OnePlus 7T Pro

OnePlus explains why this time there is no 5G version of its new line of mobiles. At the moment they consider that there is not enough potential for a new terminal with this connectivity.

Last week's OnePlus 7T Pro announcement made no mention of any new 5G devices from OnePlus. The company announced two versions of the 7T Pro (including a new McLaren edition), as well as European pricing and version information for the 7T, but all three phones only support 4G LTE, with no sign of 5G connectivity.

It was a strange omission, especially since OnePlus was so eager to launch a 5G device so early in the technology lifecycle. In October 2018, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau spoke about wanting OnePlus to launch the first 5G device in Europe, and the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G was subsequently one of the first 5G devices to launch in the UK alongside the Samsung. S10 5G. However, although Samsung has announced two more 5G devices, the Galaxy Note 10 5G and the mid-range A90 5G, OnePlus doesn't seem as keen on a second device, despite rumors that the company was going to announce a 5G edition. McLaren's new phone.

Too early for a new model

Speaking to a small group of publications at the OnePlus 7T Pro announcement event in London last week, Lau suggested (via a translator) that the company simply hasn’t seen enough of an opportunity to launch a second 5G device. “It’s not related to a Pro series or T series or another device that certainly must have 5G,” the CEO said. “It’s more about seeing what the circumstances are and what’s a suitable opportunity to build a 5G device.”

OnePlus also undoubtedly benefited from being one of the first companies to have a device ready for 5G launch in Europe. Lau said the focus of the 7 Pro was on “pushing the boundaries” of the technology. “If the technology is received well,” he said, “our intention has been to bring it to the broader series as well as the future series of devices.” The OnePlus 90 Pro’s 7Hz display, in its review, made the cut, but its 5G variant did not.

Lau admitted that 5G is likely to be a key flagship trend for the coming year. He declined to say if we would see 5G included in the standard version of the OnePlus 8. The reason was because it is difficult to know if 5G networks will exist in enough countries to make it worthwhile to include 5G in a flagship device. In India, which is a key territory for OnePlus, 5G might not be available next year.

OnePlus was successful in its attempts to be one of the first companies to launch a 5G phone, but the lack of a device to follow this trend at last week's event showed that it is being much more cautious about its second mobile. After all, you can only benefit from the thrill of launching your first 5G device once.
