According to the Global Peace Index, Spain moves away from the most peaceful countries in the world

The Institute for Economics and Peace has published the 17th edition of the Global Peace Index. Below is a summary of the results they have obtained, especially those referring to Spain and other current issues:
Table of Contents
Is Spain a safe country?
- It continues its process of distancing itself from the most peaceful group of countries, both in Europe and on a global scale.
- His score worsens compared to the previous year. It appears in the ranking as the fourteenth least peaceful country in Europe, out of a total of 36.
- It is ranked 31st on the planet of the most peaceful countries in the world.
In the world
- In the last year, deaths from armed conflicts have increased by 96%, to 238.000, not only because of the war in Ukraine.
- Up to 92 countries have increased the military budget.
- Afghanistan is the least peaceful country in the world for the sixth consecutive year.
- The global economic impact of violence increased by 17%.
- 91 countries are involved in some type of foreign conflict, compared to 58 in 2008.
- Conflict levels increased in 79 countries.
- Higher numbers of conflict deaths have been reported in Ethiopia than in Ukraine, exceeding the previous world high during the Syrian war
- It is speculated that an eventual Chinese blockade of Taiwán would cause a $2,7 trillion drop in global economic output. It would be nearly double the loss that occurred from the 2008 global financial crisis.

- Europe remains the most peaceful region in the world. But its level of peace worsens and registers the second largest worsening of a region. Of the 36 European countries, 13 registered improvements and 23 worsened.
- The rates of imprisonment, violent demonstrations, the impact of terrorism and homicide have improved in the last year. The murder rate is at its lowest level since 2008
Impact of the war in Ukraine on peace
- Ukraine registered the largest deterioration in peace levels. It has fallen 14 positions, to 157.
- The economic impact of violence has increased by 479% and $449.000 billion, which is equivalent to 64% of Ukraine's GDP
- 65% of Ukrainian men between the ages of 20 and 24 have fled the country or died in the conflict
The importance of a Taiwan blockade
Although China is not directly involved in any foreign conflict, it has become more assertive in the South China Sea and has intensified air operations near Taiwan. If a Chinese blockade of Taiwan were to materialize, it would cause a $2,7 trillion drop in global economic output, or 3% of world GDP in the first year alone.

Almost 60% of this loss would occur in China and Taiwan. It is estimated that the Chinese economy would contract by 7% and the Taiwanese by almost 40%. China's five largest trading partners are established and militarily aligned democracies: the United States, Japan, South Korea, Germany and Australia.
Here at Hardwaresfera we report on technology, and I would highlight the blockade in Taiwan because that is where foundries such as TSMC are located, in charge of manufacturing large-scale third-party chips for the largest firms. This is why Intel, Samsung, GlobalFoundries and TSMC are rushing to build foundries around the world. Coupled with years of component shortages due to increased demand for tech products and Covid-19 lockdowns, a Taiwan lockdown would prevent much of the semiconductor and tech products from being sourced until production adjusts and they are built. the foundries.
