One in four Spaniards does not handle the computer or mobile well

A quarter of the Spanish population does not use the computer well. They are conditioned by their studies, income, occupation and age.

Today the vast majority of the population in Spain uses computers or mobiles on a regular basis. We believe that everyone uses them correctly at the user level, but a study by the Observatory of Digital Competences affirms that up to 24% have an insufficient level of computing.

Not everyone knows how to use a computer or the internet correctly

The report prepared by the Department of Sociology of the Autonomous University of Barcelonay the IMANcorp Foundation concludes that several factors that can determine a person's competence factor are their studies, their occupation, household income and their age. It has taken into account four skill fields to assess a person's knowledge of the use of computers and the Internet:

  • Information: copy files, and consult information in them.
  • Communication: use email, social networks, make video calls ...
  • Problem resolution: Transfer files between devices, install programs, make purchases in online stores ...
  • Computer skills: Knowing how to handle a word processing program, spreadsheets, sound editing, photo editing, video editing, presentation creation, some programming language ...

Among the results of the report, they calculated that one in ten Spaniards does not know how to operate a computer. 13% have very low knowledge, which raises to 24% the number of Spaniards who do not have the necessary computer knowledge. 84% of Spaniards have a high level in the information skills indicator. But only 50% have it in computer skills.

Another conclusion of the report is that the higher you are, the lower the level of education or the lower the income you have, the lower the score in digital competence. The factor that most determines the score is the level of studies. But gender or origin or residence have little impact.
