QNAP Systems, Inc., a brand specializing in mass storage products for home and professional environments, today announced changes to the licensing policy for its QVR Pro surveillance system. QVR Pro licenses can now be migrated to another QNAP device , providing greater flexibility in service management.
It's common for a company upgrading its physical NAS to have to pay for a second license to keep its surveillance system operational, even though it's already paid for it. QNAP also warns that the price of QVR Pro Gold will increase. These changes will take effect on November 21, 2022.
These are the changes in QNAP QVR Pro licenses
Perpetual licenses, purchased from QNAP or resellers, can be migrated between QNAP NAS and QVP NVRs as follows:
- QVR Pro with 1 additional channel
- QVR Pro with 4 additional channels
- QVR Pro with 8 additional channels
- QVR Pro Gold with 8 additional channels and unlimited playback
- Unlimited playback of QVR Pro
For their part, the free integrated licenses on the NAS and QVP device cannot be migrated.
QNAP also advises that the following license migration limitations apply. If the license is already activated on a NAS, it must be deactivated (online or offline via the License Manager or License Center) before migrating to another NAS or QVP device. Licenses registered to a QNAP account automatically become transferable. Licenses purchased from physical license packs are also transferable. Finally, the QVR Pro Gold license cannot be applied to QVP servers. All other restrictions will follow the original limitations of each license.
With all this, QNAp wants to offer the possibility that certain user licenses can be maintained when migrating to new NAS or QVR systems. With this, it is expected that users will opt for QVR as a system for the future, knowing that their paid license can be transferred.
