A Seattle pizzeria wants to deliver pizzas by drone by 2024
Can you imagine ordering a hot pizza and having it delivered by a drone? Or a kebab and a poke? The idea of delivery by drones, preferably automated, was presented as the last step so that couriers can do without their delivery people forever, or at least most of them. The same can be said for food delivery drivers, as for many restaurants, they can't afford a delivery guy, or don't have enough of them.
Customers ordering a pizza from Seattle-based Pagliacci Pizza may soon be greeted by a drone instead of a human delivery person. The regional chain of pizzerias has signed an agreement with Zipline, a delivery drone company that is especially important in the distribution of medicines via drone in rural areas of Africa and from Asia.
From taking medicines to the delivery man of hot pizza by drone
From 2024, drones will be able toPlatform 2» from Zipline will deliver pizzas and other food to customers in a matter of minutes. A custom 13-inch Pagliacci-branded box will allow restaurant employees to pack orders into the drone’s payload droid. As the drone heads to the customer’s location, it will offer a real-time estimated time of arrival that will let the customer know when they can expect their order to arrive. Upon reaching its destination, the drone will hover at about 90 feet while the payload droid descends on a cable and carefully deposits the customer’s order on the ground.
Zipline's Platform 2 drones promise to deliver up to seven times faster than vehicles. They hope to cover 16 miles in just 10 minutes. They have a maximum range of 24 miles one way and can carry loads of up to seven kilos. This is more than enough for several pizzas, napkins and even a drink. In terms of carbon footprint, they only emit 3% of the carbon produced by delivery vehicles.
Zipline must obtain approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. This is because Seattle It is a city with a lot of air traffic and tall buildings, so the FAA may designate no-fly zones or time restrictions for safety and logistical reasons. His requirement is such that the permit would be given within a range of meters, with which it is possible for a house to receive pizza by drone, but not his neighbor.
