San Francisco doubts the automatic driving of the Tesla

San Francisco transportation authorities do not look favorably on the safety record of Tesla's advanced self-driving system. The manufacturer prepared a broad release of a trial version of the software that works on city streets and highways, but it does not appear that the San Francisco traffic delegation is going to give it the go-ahead.

The San Francisco County Transportation Authority also questioned the name of the system, which Tesla calls “Full Self-Driving.” They say it is merely an advanced driver assistance program, not an autonomous vehicle system.

Tesla's automatic driving isn't complete

Tilly Chang, executive director of the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, said in a statement to Reuters that a human driver will need to continuously monitor Tesla's FSD system. They have seen the safety record of this system and believe that the name Tesla gives it could be misleading to users.

The authority in question is in charge of managing the funds for transit and highway projects in San Francisco. Following multiple accidents by Tesla, it is under federal investigation and regulatory scrutiny has intensified to legalize Tesla's so-called self-driving technology. According to the delegation, current technology does not make the Tesla a fully autonomous vehicle under California regulations.

Despite the accusations and accidents, Elon Musk said there have been no accidents with beta users. He claims that the assisted driving system may look so good that surveillance is not necessary, but insists that surveillance is necessary, and that beta users not being careful will be kicked out of the trial program. They claim that with the beta version, a tesla's assisted driving system can do the wrong thing at the worst time, so we should always keep our hands on the wheel.
