Overwatch reaches 50 million players
Another ten million players for Overwatch since March of last year. Helped out by coming out on Nintendo Switch, and free weekends.
Blizzard doesn't stop bragging that Overwatch has millions of players. Last year, for the month of March, it reported that it has 40 million players and a few days ago they have given a new number of players: 50 million. But we already know that this figure usually has a trick.
50 million heroes in Overwatch
Much is said about these figures that Blizzard gives, but as we said, it has a lot of tricks because only users who have made an account and have played Overwatch count. And there are many ways to cheat this number. It could be that a user got banned and had to make a second account, or a professional player made a smurf account, or they count people who played a few hours on one of the free weekends .
But this recent figure is supported by the launch of Overwatch on Nintendo Switch, with which the game has had some growth. But it is still true that this figure does not really say how many players the game has, since for this they need the number of monthly users as Riot Games or Epic Games usually give with League of Legends or Fortnite.
The latest player figures data were in March 2018 when they reached 40 million, preceded by 35 million in October 2017 and 30 million in April of that year. The 20 million reached them in October 2016, so clearly the rate of new users is in a clear slowdown. Overwatch is struggling to win over new players, which is what they hope to achieve with the sequel they announced at the Blizzcon.
