Users want to turn Overwatch's Mei into a revolutionary icon in support of Hong Kong

In response to censorship of a Hearthstone player, users want China to ban Overwatch and other Blizzard games.

These last few days are generating a lot of tensions in the Blizzard circle. They censored a player who won one of his biggest Hearthstone championships for publicly supporting the Hong Kong protests against China and the community has been quick to react. That is why they now want to use Overwatch as a weapon.

Mei, pro-Hong Kong revolutionary icon

Users' strategy is to start filling the internet with messages in support of the protests in Hong Kong using Mei from Overwatch, their character of Chinese origin in the game. With this they hope that the character is so strongly attached to the protests in Hong Kong and therefore the Chinese government will have to censor Overwatch in China by including such a character in the game.

It is not a baseless strategy. It is known that President Xi Jinping has prohibited the use of the image of Disney's bear Winnie the Pooh in such a way that he prohibited the film Christopher Robin from being released in China, part of the promotional trailer for Kingdom Hearts III that showed the world was censored of the 100 Acre Forest, and got the Devotion game completely removed from Steam for having a small text that compares the president of China with the bear and insults him.

If they can get Mei very strongly attached to the Hong Kong movement and protests, China will be able to censor the entire Overwatch game in China, which will be a huge and considerable economic impact for Blizzard and Activison. It is not just for not giving the prize money to a player, but for censoring opinions to try to please the Chinese government and prefer Chinese money over freedoms.
