Biostar announces P500 external SSD up to 2TB

RGB LED lighting has not only stayed in the hardware, it has jumped to the peripherals, even those that do not connect to the PC. It seems that the trend will continue and is coming to be introduced in external storage units. Biostar just announced the P500 portable SSD, which features RGB lighting, something that being realistic, is totally dispensable.

These new Biostar P500 units arrive with capacities of up to 2TB with a fairly compact format. The company indicates that this is a unit with cutting-edge technologies, in addition to including RGB LED lighting. Biostar lists the 512GB and 1TB drives, with a format that is based on the M.2 drive that it integrates.

Biostar Announces P500 External SSD Drive

To ensure the safety of the unit, this unit offers a housing that offers good resistance to drops. The outer casing also offers heat dissipation capacity and protects against possible static discharges. Although it has not been specified, according to the data that Biostar gives us about this P500 unit, it has an aluminum casing.

Something quite strange about this unit, is that the RGB LED lighting turns on when the disk is tilted at a 45 degree angle. The unit turns off RGB lighting and turns it back on when the unit is horizontally on a surface. The less is rare, since external hard drives are normally placed horizontally on a surface.

The Biostar P500 drives will arrive in capacities of 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. These units have a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type C port that offers us speeds of 10Gbps. It offers these great speeds thanks to the M.2 NVMe unit that these units integrate.

We don't have data on the price and availability of the Biostar P500 units, but they don't look cheap.
