LG presents its OLED EX screens with more luminance
LG Display has announced its next generation of OLED technology, dubbed “OLED EX,” which it claims improves brightness by up to 30% compared to conventional OLED displays. This could help address the widespread luminance issues with OLED and mini LED displays, which often produce quality but rather dim images.
Each OLED pixel emits light independently, so it can be fully on or off. This allows you to show perfect blacks without blooming. Today's OLED TVs can display peak brightness levels of between 500 and 600 nits, while mini LEDs can reach 2.000 nits or more.
An upgrade on OLED TVs with EX
To make OLED TVs brighter, OLED EX (Evolution / eXperience) uses deuterium compounds to make light-emitting diodes emit more intense light. When stabilized, the deuterium compounds allow the screen to emit brighter light and maintain high energy efficiency.
OLED EX will also allow you to improve color accuracy by using algorithms to predict the use of 33 million OLED diodes on an 8K display. This allows the screen's power input to be precisely controlled to more accurately express the details and colors of the video content being played.
They have also reduced the screen thickness by 30% and the bezel size from 6 to 4mm on 65-inch OLED displays. They do not know when they could launch it on the market, but it will most likely start focused on the high-end screen market due to its costs and the novelty of it. Most likely, it will target consumers of the home theater range, not so much for gamers, since OLED screens tend to have latency that makes it difficult to play in titles that require very fast reaction times.
